Alcoholism and multiple drug abuse have been associated the alarming rate of crime and violence in South Africa. There has been an increase in access to drugs among adolescents. The widespread availability of drugs and drug use in most of South Africa has heightened young individuals' participation and exposure to violence.
There are many predictors of sexual assault. Socio-demographic factors, anti-social and suicidal behaviours, substance abuse and psychosocial factors are one of the many.
In recent news, the department of social development and central Drug Authority launched an anti-substance abuse national campaign on Tuesday 12th October. The campaign is said to be run with the theme No place for drugs in my community. This is all be done as a result of the growing phenomenon of substance abuse in South Africa.
